Images from Cairns, Australia and the Great Barrier Reef
Heading north into Cairns was welcome change for us, as it meant moving into the warm weather.  We had heard that the Frankland Islands were not to be missed, so we were looking for a cheap means to get ourselves the 7 miles offshore.  While exploring the possibilities, we met George, the skipper of the Cockatoo, a 47 ft yacht.  He offered to take us around the nearby islands and the reef, an opportunity we could not possibily pass up.  Waiting until he left port gave of time to rent a car and drove up the coast, and to explore Cairns.
Once we got on the boat, the next seven days were a totally amazing experience.  We sailed not only to the Franklands, but also Fitzroy Island and the Reef.  We sailed, swam, snorkeled, and explored deserted islands.   This opportunity was truly amazing and produced some incredible memories.
